When I finally graduated college, I had huge student education loans and very little money. I rented some really cheap and awful apartments. I was so used to taking really short showers, keeping the thermostat set reduced the winter, and going without the need of air conditioning. I cut coupons, never shut off to eat, and bought simple everything. I live in the northeastern section of the country, so the winter climatic conditions is brutal. It’s not unusual to need to run several heating system for six straight months. To cut down with my monthly energy bills, I put plastic onto the windows, shoved rolled up towels to resist drafts at the bottom of the doors and wore my coat inside. My crappy apartments usually featured very old, ineffective and inefficient heating systems. I lived with furnaces that blew tons of dust around, boilers that were older than my parents, and worthless room or space heaters. When I finally paid my student loans and started out making decent money, I could finally rent a much nicer apartment. My number one priority was selecting a place with a modern HVAC system. I was done living without air conditioning and freezing to death during the entire winter. In the end, I found the place that has central HVAC using zone control, and it’s wonderful. I can now adjust the temperature with my bedroom separately from the kitchen and family room. The HVAC system operates very quietly and it also circulates the indoor air, maintaining it clean and feeling clean without any sleep disruptions. There are no drafts, warm spots, or cold corners. It truly is such a pleasure to be perfectly comfortable inside my apartment.
