Where I live, there are serious winter seasons. Both of us get more than two feet of snow and suffer from a lot of winter season storms. I live in an older farm beach house, which is fantastic. The winter seasons are chilly and drafty. We have poor insulation since the beach house is so old. Especially in our room, I know the crisp breeze seep in through our walls. I have asked my father more than a couple of times to service the insulation problem. He explained how it would save him a ton on energy costs, even though he is too stubborn. He thinks that our current heating program is enough to maintain the heat in our beach house during the Winter season. He doesn’t realize how much heat is being wasted from the poor insulation. We have a boiler that all of us use to heat the beach house. Several other houses have a central heating system that seems to push more heated air into the air. We get our entire HVAC system cleaned and serviced in the start of every Winter season. Regardless of how well we maintain it, it doesn’t make up for the lack of heat throughout the Winter season. We have taken more than a couple smaller steps to help keep the heat inside; For example, we all have insulated curtains for our rooms and all of us lay towels in front of the doors to make sure the draft doesn’t disrupt the furnace. But it never fails to keep the oil furnace running all day and night long. If only our father would listen, we could find a better heating unit that suites the lake beach house and saves us some money.
