I live in an area of the country where winter is a really big deal. We expect high winds and low temperatures. But this year tops them all – at least in my lifetime. This year more than one record has been broken. Cold, wind, and snowfall have been in the headlines week in and week out. Normally, I deal with the winter by just staying indoors. So I can honestly say that I was never bothered by the climate. But for some reason, the winds this year are exposing new drafts in our home that we never knew that we had. And our poor old furnace is starting to show its age. When I had my HVAC system serviced this fall, my HVAC technician had warned me that my furnace was on its last leg and I would need to replace it soon. When I asked him if my heating method would be able to survive the winter, he warned me that it wasn’t likely. I just didn’t want to spend the money on a replacement furnace at that particular time because the holidays were right around the corner. So I decided to wait to get the furnace replaced when my taxes came back. Clearly, this was a mistake on my part, although I had no choice now. I decided I would purchase a new furnace and its related parts to help my exhausted, dying furnace. So far, the new system has made a huge difference. I have unquestionably l received a valuable lesson though. I will never ignore the recommendations of my Heating, Ventilation, and A/C serviceman again.
