When I was growing up I certainly did not learn a lot about heating and cooling systems for homes! The only thing I knew was that if you moved the needle on the control unit, the apartment got hotter or colder. But now, since buying our first home, I have learned just a few things. The house I purchased was something of a fixer-upper! I am still paying off our student loans, so money is tight! But I still wanted a property that I was investing in, unlike with an apartment. Unfortunately, this meant that my first house was not in perfect condition. The worst thing of all is that it did not have any type of air conditioning or heating methods installed, and at this point, moving the needle on the thermostat didn’t do a thing! This meant I had to do some real research on what type of cooling system would be best. I thought at first that I’d be able to make do with box fans and section heaters, but I soon realized that the peaks of summer time heat and Winter time cold were simply too extreme! When I decided to upgrade, I first checked the air ducts in our house just to see what our possibilities were. That’s when I found out that there were no ducts installed! So then I knew that I would have to use a mini-split unit of some type and since the house was very small, I wanted to make sure our windows were letting light in. So that meant that my only option was going to be a ductless AC system. It is much quieter, easy to use, it keeps our whole house the right temperature, and it works perfectly for me to use in both the summer time and winter.
