My boyfriend and I have booked a two week trip halfway across the globe in a few months! We are still young and don’t have a massive amount of money, so I thought it would be smart to pick up a babysitting job for our neighbors to make a little extra cash on the side. When we go on this trip neither of us want to have to miss out on doing activities or eating out just because we are broke. I knew from the start this wouldn’t be just another easy job. The kids seemed fine but everything else was not. For starters, it was so hot in that house! Even though it was still early fall the heated gas furnace was on full power. One of the many rules that I was told to not break while babysitting these two kids was to NEVER adjust the heated gas furnace and to never turn on the a/c. The kids like it warm and the a/c unit is hard to shut off once it is turned on. One day while the kids were taking their nap, it was so hot in the room I was miserable. I decided to turn on the a/c unit for only a while so I could cool off finally. The second that I made this decision and turned on the power to the a/c unit, the unit sprung to live and began making a loud humming noise. Not only was it loud, but it felt like it was shaking the entire room! I tried to shut it off, but the unit was so old that I couldn’t figure out how. I eventually had to call their parents to have them come and shut it off. I had already woken the kids up from their naps, and they were not happy. I think I might need to look for another side job sooner than later!
