Last winter, I climbed up on a ladder to clean the cobwebs from the corners of the ceiling in the living room.

I noticed a significant difference in temperature between the floor level and standing on the latter.

Sitting on the couch, I’d need to wear a sweater to keep warm. At the top of the ladder, I was sweating while wearing a T-shirt. This told me that the heat from the furnace was flowing from the supply vents and rising straight up. I was definitely paying higher than necessary monthly utility bills. Plus, the furnace was working extra hard, using more energy and at bigger risk of a malfunction. I did some research and found that ceiling fans are a great way to improve the comfort and efficiency of the home. The circulation of the blades works to properly distribute the air. In the summer, the ceiling fans create a cooling effect and lessen demands on the air conditioner. In the winter, by reversing the direction of the blades, the fan helps to push the heat down from the ceiling. Ceiling fans are available in a wide variety of sizes, styles and prices. Modern options include cordless remotes, LED lights, multiple speeds and all sorts of extra features. I originally hoped to handle the installation on my own. When I realized that the ceiling fans are rather heavy and sometimes require special reinforcements, I decided to hire a licensed electrician. The electrician completed the project quickly, properly and with no mess. He made sure that the ceiling fixtures are properly balanced and operating safely and quietly.

My friend Casey is a licensed real estate broker, and she is great at her job.

In fact, she has won a few awards for the work that she has done, and she is well-connected in the town that we live in.

She knows all the important real estate heavy hitters that are in our town as well as in the state. So, of course, knowing people in high places always have some perks. And Casey’s perks are the best! We have gotten discounts on vacation homes for rent, we also get discounts at major home improvement stores, as well as nurseries in our town. Whenever I go shopping with Casey, chances are, she’ll know someone connected to the place. In addition to being a real estate broker, Casey runs her own property management company. This means she knows all the local handymen, plumbers, and general contractors in our town. If she ever needs something to be fixed, it’s literally just one phone call away. So, when I needed renovations on my home, I was able to get a huge discount from the contractor that Casey recommended. And yes, I do take full advantage of the perks that she offers. I must be honest, I haven’t paid full price for any repairs or upgrades on my home because of Casey’s connections. As a homeowner, it’s good to have a friend who is in real estate because you never know when you will need something for your home. Plus, if I ever decide to sell the house that I am living in, of course, Casey would be my realtor, or she will recommend someone who will get me the best deal possible. Can’t ask for much more than that.

I live in a townhouse that I have been renting for about 2 years now.

And last year, after some major storms, I noticed that there was a leak inside the garage.

From the outside looking in, I could see that the shingles were curled up in this one spot on the roof which is where I saw the leak inside the garage. I then noticed that the shingles on my neighbor’s garage were curled up and discolored as well. So without knowing for sure, I could only assume that there was a leak inside my neighbor’s garage as well. Anyway, I took pictures of the roof as well as the leak and sent it to my landlord. It had been some months and I hadn’t heard back from him. Then finally, I received a notice that the entire complex will be getting the roof repaired. The HOA hired a roofing contractor who would be completing the roofing repair on different sections of the complex. The HOA provided the name and phone number for the roofing contractor and advised the residents to contact the roofing contractor if there were any issues. Well, about a week after I got the notice, the roof repairs began, and I could tell because repairing a roof is a noisy project. And when the roofing guys moved to my section of the complex, the noise was even louder than it was before. The letter did mention that the noise level would be high, so this was something I knew was coming, but this was the first time that I had lived somewhere that needed roof repairs. Needless to say, after a noisy week, the roof repair was done, and I was grateful to have peace again.

We went on a company trip.

There were three of us from the same supplier. We were going to stay in that town for a whole week. We checked into a fantastic hotel & booked three rooms. I immediately went to my room because I was tired. I realized that the room was sweltering. I tried adjusting the thermostat, but it was not getting any better. I immediately reported the issue to reception. They assured me that the problem was going to be solved immediately. They called the local service provider & assured me they would send a cooling professional into the room to check the situation. The cooling specialist informed me it needed a replacement because it was unrepairable. I immediately advised to be moved to another room. It would not be fantastic to stay in a room with a cooling unit that doesn’t help with indoor comfort. I moved to another room where I was more comfortable. Later on, when I went to the reception, I discovered that the supervisor communicated with the hotel’s administration, & he had to ensure that the cooling corporation attended to the issue. He visited one of the Heating & Air Conditioning dealers & talked to the Heating & Air Conditioning supplier, who said he would ensure the cooling component would be up & running in no time. Tplot to his word, the electric heat pump started running smoothly after work on the Heating & Air Conditioning replacement. The receptionist was actually talkative. She made sure to tell me everything that happened. She added that another client had already occupied the room after the quality AC service. I had to excuse myself when she started going on & on about the cooling technology of an electric heat pump.

I couldn’t believe how high the temperature got last week whenever we went down to visit my dad in the southern part of the country.

I am always amazed that I was able to live down there back when I was growing up.

These days, I just don’t think that I could live down there. The temperature is just too hot there for my liking now. I think that the people who live there have some sort of super power or something in order to live there comfortably. It’s funny because back when I was younger and I was living there all the time, I never really thought that the temperature ever got all that hot. I mean, it was hot outside during the summer, but temperature was never something that I could not handle. It was just summer to me back then, and I didn’t really even notice how hot it was. I guess that’s just how kids are most of the time. However, now that I’m older, I just can’t stand the heat the way that I used to. Where I’m living now, I don’t even have to use the air conditioning a lot of the time during the summer. The temperature doesn’t get all that hot here in summer. But whenever we went to visit my dad, all I wanted to do was sit in the car with the air conditioning turned on full blast! The funny thing was that my dad didn’t even think it was all that hot. I guess your body just gets used to the temperature that you live in whenever you’ve been there for a while. I never want to have to get used to all that heat ever again, though.
