I wish I could be as prepared for other life changes as I was for increasing the HVAC equipment! This was simply something that I tried to anticipate but also was totally dreading; after the heat pump turned 20, my partner thought it would be a smart plan to start saving cash for the up-to-date HVAC unit.
And wow, was she ever prescient.
We were able to save cash for two full years before the HVAC specialist informed us that our heat pump was on the way out. He told us this during a single of the seasonal HVAC maintenance appointments that my buddy and I get every year. And I’m so incredibly thankful that my buddy and I had this heads up because it undoubtedly served us well. Where my buddy and I live, there isn’t much demand for heating during the winter. While my buddy and I may need some heating from the heat pump once in a while, it’s never much; and so our heating costs are pretty much negligible during the winter. We could even get by with a space gas furnace if necessary. So having all that time to choose the sort of HVAC technology plus residential HVAC was awesome. We were able to meet with the HVAC professionals to learn all about the advancement in HVAC technology over the entire last quarter of a century. We definitely were able to buy the up-to-date HVAC equipment with an eye toward selling the home in the next few years; but indeed, the HVAC supplier did us a real solid with all the time my buddy and I had to settle for that HVAC substitute.
