I couldn’t believe it! I was going to have the house to myself for a whole week! The kids were going to summer camp and my husband was traveling for work. I had a freezer full of microwavable meals, ice cream, and a bunch of shows recorded. I thought this was going to be a great week. But then, my first night home alone, I heard a really strange noise in the house. It was really scary. It sounded like someone was moving about in the attic and there was a lot of creaking and groaning noises. It only happened a few times an hour but that made it even more creepy. I tried to talk myself out of being scared but I didn’t get much sleep that night. The next morning I asked my neighbor for help and we went into the attic together to check it out. My neighbor laughed at me when we discover the source of the noise. It turned out that my ventilation system was a little bit loose. The ductwork was rubbing up against itself whenever the air conditioner turned on or off. I felt very relieved but I still scheduled an HVAC technician to come out and do some ductwork sealing. They were able to get right on it and fix the ductwork and the noise stopped. Then, the next day, the toilet backed up and I had to call out a plumber. It felt like I spent my entire “relaxing” weekend taking care of home repairs. As soon as the kids and my husband came back, I didn’t have any more home problems at all. Funny how it works out that way.
