Don’t mess around with the HVAC warranty

I’m certainly not the sort of person who reads through all the manuals and warranties before I start playing with a new toy. And yes, I’m a grown man. But I sort of wish that I wasn’t the way I am. For sure, had I read my HVAC warranty, I would have handled the HVAC cooling problem much differently. But of course, that wasn’t the case and it cost me big time. Coming home after working to step into my wonderfully HVAC maintained house is one of the highlights of every day. So when I walked through the door to a hot and humid house, I was not at all pleased. I checked the breaker and the thermostat both of which seemed to be fine. The HVAC unit itself was actually still running. It’s just that it wasn’t blowing any sort of HVAC cooling. Initially, I thought this was the time to call the HVAC professionals. But I was sort of irritated with myself because I had forgotten to get the air conditioning tune up in the spring. I was sure that this was the result and somehow, my brain said it was up to me to fix the situation. I should know better than to listen to my brain. For sure that was a jump in logic but that didn’t stop me. After checking online, I convinced myself that the problem was that the air conditioning needed to be recharged. Of course that wasn’t the problem and my attempt at HVAC repair only made things worse. Not only did the HVAC technician come out to repair the heat pump. But he also informed me that I had voided the HVAC warranty by doing what I had done.
