When you get paid for every assignment, you look forward to them because that means more money.
Unfortunately for me, the email did not contain any tasks.
It was actually to inform me that I would not receive any more assignments for the rest of the week because work had many errors. To begin with, my sister had called me so early in the morning and begged me to go pick up her daughter and take her to our mother’s house to make sure that the HVAC tech took care of the heating repair because her heater had developed a problem during the night. Just before I left the house, I got an email containing work. By the time the serviceman from the heating dealership came, it was well past nine. I started on my assignment at my sister’s house because a complete HVAC service plan had to be done. I had not factored in the time for the heater maintenance before we had to leave the house. I did not think that heated floors needed any. Just when I thought he was done, he changed the furnace filter. By the time I was dropping off my niece, much time had passed. That night was worse. Just when I was making good progress on the assignment, the boiler decided that it had had enough. The house was so cold I could barely concentrate. For a minute, I stopped what I was doing and started researching the heating industry, particularly heat and AC products. Maybe it was time I switched my entire furnace/heater installation to an electric heating system. The wireless thermostat also looked like a nice investment.
