The HVAC technician told me we had to talk.

When someone tells me we need to talk, I knew there is a problem.

Whenever my mom or dad told me we had to talk, I was trying to figure out what I did wrong.

When my ex-husband said we had to talk, we ended up divorced. Now, the HVAC technician was telling me we had to talk. He was supposed to be servicing the air conditioning unit, and I couldn’t figure out what could be so wrong that we needed to talk. He said he had found something wrong, but it was a minor repair. He didn’t want to repair the air conditioning unit before we talked about it. I took a deep breath, and he laughed. He told me he knew what the ‘we need to talk’ statement meant. He had been on the receiving end of that several times; especially with his parents. We both laughed. He asked me if it was okay that he goes back to the HVAC company and gets the part. He said he would be back in an hour and he would then fix the air conditioner. I asked how much it was going to cost, and he frowned. He looked at the paperwork and asked if I didn’t have a maintenance and repair agreement. When I nodded yes, he smiled. He told me that with the maintenance and repair agreement, it wouldn’t cost me a penny. As long as the repair was found while he was there to do maintenance, the repair was free. For the first time in forever, the ‘we had to talk’ statement wasn’t a bad thing.
