Working with the new tech was unquestionably frustrating.

He said that he never realized how he would have to work on both an a/c and a furnace in the same week

I have been a mentor for new techs at the Heating and Air Conditioning supplier for over 10 years, when this brash young person came in. He was fresh out of Heating and Air Conditioning university, at the top of his class. This kid brought his Heating and Air Conditioning certification paper into the office and threw it on our desk. He was cocky and thought he knew everything there is about Heating and Air Conditioning. I remember our son acting the same way, and needing to knock him down a few steps. I thought finally working alongside him was the most frustrating mentorship I had ever taken on; Not only was our son brash and cocky, he thought he knew everything, although he was also challenging me as his dad each step of the way. I thought I was going to have to do the same thing with this young tech. Working with him was unquestionably frustrating, however not nearly as exhausting as when I worked with our son. He thought he knew everything about central Heating and Air Conditioning, although he soon found out he didn’t think near enough. Within a few weeks, he went from servicing a furnace to finally working on a broken down oil furnace and repairing a wrecked a/c. Our temperatures went from 79°, down to 35 within less than a month. He said that he never realized how he would have to work on both an a/c and a furnace in the same week. I told him that where we live; he needed to get used to it. Heating and Air Conditioning was never the same thing too often, and he also had to learn how to deal with people at work, even if they didn’t understand what you were telling them..
