Running air conditioning maintenance at my new neighbor’s house

I have lived in my house for five years now and last winter we had a new neighbor move into the house next to mine.

  • I was happy because it had become lonely sharing the entire complex on my own.

My new neighbor was a young mother with a daily young family. I would help babysit their cute daughter when I was not working. One night I heard a knock on my door, my neighbor was requesting that I help check on her air conditioner. She knew I worked as an a/c representative at the local air conditioning company. When I entered the house, I noticed the low air quality. The a/c system had stopped working, plunging the house into a heatwave. The place was extremely hot and stuffy. The system needed comprehensive air conditioning maintenance to restore function. The air conditioner installation had been done about a year when my neighbor moved in. She had tried to keep up with the a/c care plan but with the toddler and other house matters, she had not come around to calling an a/c worker for any a/c repairs. All in all, she understood the importance of a/c care. Further examination of the system revealed that it was broken due to a power surge. We contacted the air conditioning supplier the next morning for a new air conditioning unit. The a/c service took a couple of hours afterward, so I headed to the air conditioning business. To help her out, I offered to be scheduling the tune-ups and repairs, all she had to do was be available when the date came. Taking care of an HVAC system was not easy but it was worth it.

A good day in the life of an air conditioning supplier

I could say that I had scored big when I got a job as an a/c representative with the local air conditioning company. The company had opened a new branch in another town and needed someone to man the store. My supervisor suggested I like a good candidate to manage the operations of the store. I had been with the company for at least five years and had learned a whole lot of stuff. I remember doing my first ever air conditioning installation. The supervisor of the a/c workers had guided me through each step of the installation process, later he requested that I share the a/c care plan with the customer and also explain what they needed to do to maintain the optimal function of an air conditioner. There was a lot that customers could do to promote a/c care and when they found out the minute stuff they could do, they were happy that they could help keep up the a/c service. When I was promoted, the only thing my supervisor told me was to take customers seriously and do whatever it takes to make sure they are satisfied. I was assigned a team of a/c repair specialists. A good day at work was when I could help all the customers that came to the air conditioning supplier store. I had a customer come to the air conditioning business complaining about the poor air quality and issues with their system. Further examination of the system revealed that the customer needed new air conditioning as running an air conditioning maintenance could not have helped. Each day was different and I had to solve different types of problems.

I had just come home from college.

  • I was about to graduate from technical college where I was doing a cause to become an a/c representative.

I had come home for the last break before sitting for my exams to gain my certification. When I got home, a friend of mine came to visit me. He worked as an a/c worker in one of the air conditioning companies in the area. My friend told me about a training program that the air conditioning business was offering to new graduates. The training program was to give new graduates more confidence in tackling any issues concerning air conditioners. This would be a great opportunity for me to perfect my skills. I could only run a simple a/c repair to improve the air quality. I had interacted with a few old and new air conditioning systems, but I needed more experience working with these machines to know my way around them. I was fortunate enough to be accepted into the training program and it was as my friend had described. On the first day, we were shown how to do an air conditioning installation from beginning to end. The process was a bit different for equipment and it took me a while to perfect it. My dream of becoming an air conditioning supplier was slowly becoming a reality. After about a few months I was able to go on a/c service jobs. I helped streamline the a/c care plan that the business offered to customers. This plan was essential in keeping up with the air conditioning maintenance. The training program took about six months. By the end of this period, I was conversant with everything involved in a/c care.

I can say that I have done well for myself over the years, though the journey was filled with a lot of obstacles and challenges.

I found a job with one of the biggest air conditioning companies in the state.

I started as a junior a/c worker. Some of my duties included helping out with any a/c repairs or a/c services. I would accompany the a/c representative team on their work orders. This shadowing allowed me to hone my skills and grow my confidence in attempting a job on my own. By the end of the first year, I was able to execute complicated tasks such as air conditioning installation. I was even able to go on these work orders and participate with the rest of my colleagues in the air conditioning maintenance. Soon after graduating from the apprentice program, I was given a task to help the expansion team as they were working on a plan to open an air conditioning business in a remote town west of our town. When we visited the town to determine whether the idea was feasible, we saw that there was a demand for new air conditioning systems and services. The inhabitants had HVAC systems but they had to travel far just to get an a/c worker to run simple tune-ups or the normal regular repairs. Some were struggling to keep up the optimal function of the system because they didn’t have a feasible a/c care plan for their air conditioners. The process of opening a business was challenging but the town inhabitants welcomed us making things a bit easier. We first set up an air conditioning supplier store where the inhabitants would get basic a/c care to improve the air quality.

To say I was skeptical is to understate my feelings to as large a degree as possible really. When the real estate agent told us that our HVAC equipment needed to be replaced, I wasn’t pleased. The realtor was sort of abrupt and overly direct about all the stuff that needed to be done to our house before she would list it. That got under my skin for sure because I thought it was less than respectful and not a great way to do business. However, that was a small part of my skepticism when it came to the heating and cooling equipment upgrade. I pushed back on the HVAC upgrade because I had invested so much HVAC maintenance into the current HVAC unit. It wasn’t quite 15 years old and had gotten heating maintenance in the fall and an air conditioning tune-up each spring. There was never a missed appointment in all those years thanks to the HVAC service plan we signed up for the day after it was installed. So, I felt really not great at all about trashing heating and cooling equipment that was clearly working remarkably well and had at least a decade of service left. Fortunately, the business first realtor was a professional and really good at what she did. So, she came with data from comps in the area that proved her point. Still, I talked with the HVAC professionals to see if perhaps the HVAC unit could be removed and repurposed for someone who might need it. That’s what ended up happening so I felt much better when it came to getting the latest in residential HVAC to sell our house.
