Types of Roofing Shingles

In addition to protecting your roof’s structure and keeping out water, roofing shingles also add significant curb appeal and value to your home.

The type of roofing shingles you choose can also affect the durability of your roof against wind, rain, hail, and other weather events.

Asphalt, 3-tab, architectural, impact-resistant, and COOL are some types of roofing shingles. Asphalt roofing shingles are a reliable, affordable, and popular roofing material. Many homes use 3-tab roof shingles. A symmetrical appearance is provided by three distinct tabs of equal size. These traditional asphalt shingles have a repeating rectangular shape separated by “slots” and are typically less expensive than other asphalt shingle options. Architectural roofing shingles are also known as dimensional shingles or laminated shingles because they are composed of two layers of shingle pieces laminated together to provide a 3-dimensional appearance. Due to the variation in shingle sizes and shapes, roofs covered in architectural shingles have an aesthetically pleasing appearance. Impact-resistant shingles are shingles that are modified and enhanced to withstand impact from hail or other debris that might fall on your roof. There are different ways that the shingles are modified to achieve this resistance. Some insurance providers offer a discount to homeowners who have Class 4 impact-resistant shingles installed on their roofs. With solar-reflecting granules, COOL roofing shingles reduce heat absorption through the roof, making your home more energy-efficient. You may need to consider the following roof options for your home if your local building code or your HOA rule requires you to install non-asphalt roofing materials, including tile, slate tile, wood shake, standing seam metal, and stone coated metal roofing shingles. When it comes to choosing shingles for your roof, you have so many options to choose from.

Stop Your Overflowing Toilet

Overflowing toilets require quick thinking and quick action.

It’s not hard to take care of it if you know how! Remove the lid from the toilet tank quickly and carefully and set it aside.

Place it somewhere secure, but don’t worry about laying it on towels or anything like that. Remember, you don’t have much time to lose! Next, press down on the flapper valve inside the toilet tank. You don’t need to worry about the sanitary conditions of the tank’s water. The flapper is the rubber piece in the center of the tank’s bottom. By doing this, you should be able to prevent more water from entering the bowl and from overflowing. Lift up on the float that operates the tank fill valve once you’ve secured the flapper valve. As the main water supply is shut off, the water level in the bowl should slowly decrease. After about a minute, when the water level returns to normal, you can let go of the float and let the bowl refill without worrying about it overflowing. Keep an eye on it so you can stop it if the level increases. If the water level doesn’t start to drop after about a minute, continue to hold the float while you shut off the water at the toilet supply valve, located near the floor or in the wall behind the toilet. Close it by turning it clockwise. If you can’t reach the valve while holding the float, let go of the ball and close the valve as fast as you can. Stop using all plumbing fixtures as soon as the toilet stops overflowing and use a plunger to see if you can clear the blockage. If only one toilet is blocked, the problem is most likely just with that toilet. However, if more than one toilet is affected, you may have a blocked system drain or a failing septic system.

My neighbor came to my rescue last month

My neighbor asked me not to worry and called her husband on her phone.

When I moved into my neighborhood, I wasn’t sure what to expect. I was a single mom with two small kids. Life wasn’t too bad because I have a small business, but it felt quite straining to relocate. The area was good because of the schools around. I wanted my kids to get the best education, so I bought a house in the area. The day I moved in, my neighbor came by to say hello and brought a basket of muffins. She found me out in the backyard kneeling next to the air conditioning. When I bought the house, the air conditioner was working. I even had an HVAC expert come to inspect the unit. He assured me it was in good working condition, so I signed the papers for the house. However, I tried to turn on the AC the day we moved in, but nothing happened. I thought perhaps the breaker was off, but all was good. It seemed the air conditioner was faulty, and I didn’t know what to do. It’s like God sent my neighbor to me because she found me checking the air conditioner. We said hello, and I thanked her for the muffins. She asked what was wrong, and I explained the AC unit wasn’t turning on. My neighbor asked me not to worry and called her husband on her phone. Apparently, he owns the local HVAC business that does repairs all over the area. In less than an hour, there was an HVAC worker at the house doing repairs. Once he ensured the unit was working, he left, and I was thankful to my neighbor for coming to my rescue.

My aunt was saying her AC was making her sick

I went to live with my aunt when I was 6.

  • My mom fell ill and could no longer take care of me.

My aunt didn’t think twice about taking me in as her child. Unfortunately, my mom never got better. After she passed away, my aunt became my legal guardian. I was never alone and felt so much love growing up with my cousins. After high school, I went on to college and graduated with honors. There was an international company recruiting, so I took this opportunity to work abroad and see the world. But, I always came home to my aunt’s place during the holidays to be with the rest of the family. Last year, my cousins and I bought my aunt a beautiful new home in a posh area with excellent amenities. However, 2 weeks after she moved in, my aunt called to say the AC made her sick. This was quite a surprise since we ensured the house had a new AC system. Since I was away, I called my cousin to head over to the house and see why the AC made her sick. My cousin sent me a message later in the day saying they got in touch with an HVAC expert in the area. The new AC was too powerful and caused my aunt to fall sick. They had to change the thermostat and use one my aunt could operate easily. The next time we spoke, she felt much better now that the AC unit was no longer making her sick.

Brenda was pleased with the amazing customer service

Brenda’s mom was leaving the country for 6 months to be with her new partner.

They’d just gotten married, and Brenda was over the moon since she knew her mom would be okay.

She worried her mom was lonely for a while and hoped she’d find love again. Brenda’s subtle hints encouraged her mom to start dating, and she met the most wonderful guy. They were leaving on a cruise that would take them worldwide for 6 months. Brenda offered to take care of the house while her mom was away. One afternoon, she washed the plants and noticed the cooling unit wasn’t working. The house felt hot and muggy, so Brenda had to act fast. She barely got time to go to the house, so she had to fix the cooling system that day. A quick search online led Brenda to an HVAC corporation in the area. They assured their customers of speedy services. This inspired Brenda to call them, hoping there’d be an HVAC worker available to come to the house. A customer service representative answered the call, and it was so amazing. She assured Brenda she understood the urgency of the matter and that an HVAC worker would come by to the house in half an hour. Brenda gave details to the lady, including the address and hung up. 35 minutes later, she saw an HVAC van pull up the driveway and was so amazed by the speedy response. The HVAC worker was just as warm as the customer care representative Brenda had spoken to earlier. He inspected the faulty unit, fixed it and left after ensuring the cooling unit was running.
