Jules has never lived up north.

All her life, she lived in an area where the climate was hot and dry.

It barely snowed in winter, so they had to travel to different areas to enjoy some skiing as a family. Jules’s memories of the many winter vacations made her long to live in a cooler climate. She packed her bags after college and moved up north without a job. Jules figured she could search for something to do when she got there. Her friend had a spare room in her apartment which Jules rented for a year as she settled down. Later, she found a job and a new place to stay with excellent features. The house was in a hilly area, and Jules loved the views she got no matter the season. She also appreciates that the owner has installed a furnace system that keeps her cosy in winter. However, one issue Jules has had to deal with is dry air in winter. When they vacationed in such places as a kid, Jules never knew there was something like dry air. But, now, as a resident of this cooler area, she is learning all about it. During her first winter, Jules fell ill and had to go to the hospital. Her doctor explained the issue with dry air and advised Jules to get a humidifier for her home. The low humidity levels resulted from regular furnace use all winter to heat the house. Adding a humidifier would offer Jules relief and ensure she was comfortable in her new home.

Martin has been searching for a reliable realtor in his new location.

He had to move there for work and felt quite out of place.

Martin found a small apartment to rent, but he intends to buy a house. The only issue is that this is a new location, and Martin has yet to learn about the best places to live. His co-worker advised him to find a realtor and visit a few places. She recommended one who is ranked among the best real estate agents in the area. This agent would take Martin around the city, showing him the new houses. He was adamant he wanted a new build because these often come with new appliances and HVAC systems. His budget was big enough to afford to buy in up-and-coming developments in the city. One house stood out for Martin, who wanted to ensure everything was in good condition. He opted to contact an area HVAC business for assistance. They’d send over an HVAC professional to inspect and ascertain the cooling and heating systems were working. Martin called the HVAC business and had to wait a day before they sent over an HVAC professional to the new house. Apart from the cooling and heating systems, the guy would also inspect the ductwork in the house. He gave Martin the greenlight after finishing the HVAC inspection. Martin was quite happy that this new house’s cooling and heating systems were good. He planned on moving in as soon as he was done with buying since his apartment wasn’t a lease.

My house is in dire need of an upgrade.

Since I bought it, the only remodel I’ve done is in the kitchen.

The rest of it looks old and outdated. But, this wasn’t a big issue when the kids were young. I had to focus on ensuring they had everything they needed. Between taking care of them and paying the bills, there wasn’t much money left to cover renovating the house. My youngest left for college, so now I’m thinking about upgrades. Even my old HVAC system has been showing signs of needing a replacement. I’ve always stayed on top of HVAC maintenance and repairs. This is why the HVAC system has been working for 10 years. But, now, the unit is getting older. I also have this old dial thermostat that I use to control the temperature in the house. It will cost me a small fortune to update every inch of the house when I do the math. But, I have no intention of tackling all of it at once. I have some good savings and fewer expenses now that all the kids are away from home. My 2 oldest have also said they’d chip in to help with the renovation expenses. I wanted them to focus on their new lives as working adults, but they insist they want to be part of their upgrades. This house holds many memories for us, so I know they want to help preserve it. One of the urgent changes I intend to make soon is updating the dial thermostat. My son told me about the smart thermostat in his apartment, and I like it. This will be so convenient since I have to use an app on my phone to control the temperature settings.

Since we were young, my brother has wanted to own his own business.

An uncle of mine was a big-time business owner.

He would have great presents for us whenever he visited my mom and his sister. He is the one who started fanning the flame of entrepreneurship in my brother. My uncle is a trained electrician who runs a big-time electrical installation and repair business. He encouraged us not to focus so much on university but attend technical schools. My brother finished high school before me and went on to HVAC school. He trained to become an HVAC professional while attending business classes at a local community college. After finishing school, he followed my uncle’s advice once more and went to work at a local HVAC business. The goal was to gain as much experience as possible while also learning the ins and outs of the HVAC industry. After 5 years of working for 2 different HVAC businesses, my brother set off on his own. He gained ample knowledge and saved up to start his new venture. His goal was to enter the new business with as little debt as possible. My uncle and mom supported me since starting a new business isn’t easy. But, thanks to his experience and personable nature, the business picked up. Mom always talked to her friends and neighbors to drum up business for my brother. My uncle also taught him how to use online platforms for marketing his new HVAC business. Now, my brother owns a successful HVAC business, and I’ve been working for him for 2 years.

We’re not sure why dad chose to move away from the city.

One day he called my brother and me to say he was moving away.

I guess after many years of living in such a busy environment. Dad longed for some peace. He asked us to find some free time to accompany him to a lake house he was thinking about purchasing. One Saturday morning, when we were all free, we drove to the location and fell in love with everything we saw. My brother and I were even thinking about moving in next door. The location is out of this world, and the lake house is modern with excellent features. Among this house’s main attractions was that the developer has set up new HVAC systems in each of the properties. It’s been 3 years since dad moved to the lake house community, and we never heard him complain about the HVAC system. Last Saturday, dad phoned to say he was having an issue with the cooling unit in the lake house. He heard a hissing sound coming from it, and the research he did indicated this could be a refrigerant leak. Since refrigerant is dangerous, he turned off the AC and was contemplating calling an HVAC professional to take a look. I told dad that was a wise thing to do, and he phoned an HVAC professional immediately after we hung up. Later, he called to say it was a refrigerant leak which the HVAC professional fixed before adding more charge to the unit. He was happy the unit was no longer making the hissing sound.
